Braving The Wilderness by Brené Brown

Braving the Wilderness is a much waited upon and truly beautiful book on finding true belonging – something that is essential for every human.

  • “Belonging is the innate human desire to belong to something larger than us.”
  • “True belonging doesn’t require us to change who we are, it requires us to be who we are.”

~ BrenĂ© Brown in The Gifts Of Imperfection (2010) and in Braving the Wilderness (2017)

Brené Brown is a social scientists, specialized in the field of shame. Through ought the book she examines what makes us feel true belonging in a world where societies drift apart and more and more hate seems to spread around our world. She comes to some eye-opening conclusion about true belonging and thereby hits the nail on the head, teaching us that true belonging is something that really only can come from within.

Furthermore she gives a lot of practical advise on how to navigate today’s divided minefield of political connections without falling prey to fear, hate or conformity. In this way she creates a powerful manifesto for more openness and compassion for others. Because beneath all those superficial opinions that seem to divide us so deeply, we’re all still just humans wanting the same thing: to belong somewhere.
The book is really well written and researched. Brene succeeds in creating a touching book by telling various emotional stories from her own life as well as from others. In this way, Braving The Wilderness becomes a place of hope and inspiration. It has a lot of healing potential for everyone who has ever felt lost or alone. I could really recognize myself in many of the störriges she described, even einübten me to the point of tears at one point. Here words are simply beautiful.
So all in all, it’s a wonderful book that contains a lot of knowledge. Faced with so much political and and cultural tension as we are right now, it’s must-read for everyone who wants to know how to stay open and loving. So try it out and tell me how you liked it!
